I've been meaning to write a paean to Palmerston North for many years now but nothing ever quite came out right till now. This version of the song is a demo, hence the plastic drums. MacDeth and McBOOOM haven't added their sparkly goodness yet!

The idea that Palmy might not be first but it's definitely fourth shows that we aren't egotistical here! Besides, if I tout Palmy as being the best town around, it would get spoiled when everyone moves here, so I'm happy the way it is.
(Yes, I call it Palmy for short. If you want to bicker about names, I'm a firm believer it should officially be called Papaieoa, so feel free to get me started on that argument!)

lyrics

Driving on the plains on the way to the sea
Stopping for a pie and a whiz at BP
Palmy looks good so I just might stay
That seaside trip can wait another day

Chorus:
Palmerston North is one place to be
There might be others - maybe even three
It might not be first but it's definitely fourth
Palmerston North

The hillsides rock and the windmills roll
Who says Palmy doesn't have soul?
The underground scene is always strong
That's partly why I'm singing this song

Chorus
Gratuitous solo

The underground scene is buried deep
That's why the town appears to be asleep
But scratch that surface like a week-old scab
And suddenly the town doesn't seem so drab

Chorus.
Outro.
